Upper and Lower Lough MacNean form a large part of the natural border between the three neighbouring counties of Cavan, Fermanagh and Leitrim, and contribute to the great natural beauty of the area.
The lakes are overlooked by the brooding eminence of Cuilcagh mountain, a mecca for hill walkers and any one with a love of the great out doors, and designated as an important environmental conservation area.
The less adventurous can stroll through beautiful wooded areas like Glenfarne forest, in Co Leitrim, the Claddagh Glen in Co Fermanagh or view the spot near Blacklion, Co. Cavan, where Cathal McGiolla Gunna was inspired to write his poem to the Bunan Bui.
The lakeshore at Belcoo can be accessed through the park - worth a visit just to admire the lovely trees.
