Spend a weekend exploring the Cavan Burren and bring alive the ancient landscape of Ireland. Become familiar with monuments, folklore and cultural heritage of this facinating region.
The weekend will take you on a journey back in time to the Stone, Bronze & Iron Ages. We will physically and spiritually explore some of the Cavan Burren's ancient and sacred sites and discover how our ancestors lived, worked, played and prayed. We will consider the fascinating mythology of this region and we will investigate our ability to read a landscape.
Guide
Mary Quinlan, anthropologist and amateur archaeologist, is well-known for her informative and lively workshops where ancient peoples and landscapes are brought to life. She regularly conducts workshops on pre-historic sites in the Boyne Valley, Tara, the Burren and the Sligo/Leitrim areas of Ireland.
Weekend Programme
Arrive Friday 14 September. Check in between 6.00 and 7.00pm. Dinner 7.30pm. Ifthe weather is fine, take a walk in Glenfarne Forest. Finish with a night cap with the locals in the charming pub across the road from Clancy's.
Saturday 15 September: Visualisation and presentationwith questions and answers. The aim of the visualisation is to allow you to let go of the materialistic work we live in today and bring you back in time to Celtic Ireland and a spend ‘a day in the life’ of people living in Ireland over 2000 years ago.
The presentation will give you a sense of the different time periods in Ireland and the monuments associated with these e.g Neolithic Period associated with Passage Cairns, Dolmens and Celtic Times associated with Ringforts, barrows, boulder graves, etc. Walk through the Burren forest with guide identifying the different types of momuments.
Saturday evening: dinner 7.30pm.
Sunday morning 10.30am: walk with a guide who is a local historian.
Price includes:Two nights accommodation on shared basis with private bath/shower in Clancy's Hotel, Glenfarne, Co. Leitrim, which offers comfortable accommodation and a restaurant. Dinner Friday and Saturday nights. Workshop and guided tours through Burren.
